Gardenia's New Single "Lana Del Rey" Is A Masterpiece

Songs named after celebrities offer unique reference points (hello, Uma Thurman!). Gardenia's take on this celebrates the legacy of Lana Del Rey in their new single, "Lana Del Rey." Though not directly about the songstress, the lyrics echo her signature themes: haunting, cinematic, and drenched in longing.

Sonically, the song traverses uncharted territory. Indie-esque guitar distortion guides a live drum kit, with bass at the forefront. It’s the opposite of a Lana Del Rey song until you listen to the lyrics. Then, it all clicks.

That tension encapsulated by the raw, textured instrumentation against the introspective storytelling creates a push and pull that lingers long after the song ends. A gorgeous crescendo builds into a searing guitar solo, each note crashing like ocean waves, swelling with emotion. The song's deeply resonant political commentary is subtle until it isn't, eventually slapping you in the face with a harsh reality.

Truthfully, Gardenia needs no comparison. Their vibrant soundscapes are like paint splattered on a canvas—chaotic yet intentional, each detail shaping something breathtaking. There's just the right amount of grit, paired with polished playing. "Lana Del Rey" might just be the track that takes Gardenia to the next level.
