LOCAL BYTES: KAILEY’S RETURN TO THE VIPER ROOM

Kailey, a pop-rock artist based in LA, has been a headlining act for the Viper Room multiple times, her first appearance being in March. The intimate club atmosphere suits her well, as she makes her appearances feel like a hangout session with a friend.

While she only has one album out, titled things I should have told my therapist, she bolsters her set by coasting through covers from Paramore and Maggie Lindemann as if she wrote them herself. Kailey is outwardly political – with songs that detail queer love and a strong pro-choice stance, she held a small interim where she spoke strongly against the overturning of Roe V Wade. This leads into her song “Teeth," which has thematic parallels. A unique feature of her performances that’s always a delight is her closing number, a jazzy version of her song "Countdown" which gives a more intimate look at her and her backing band’s technical prowess.
