Modern pop-punk legends State Champs have returned with a catchy and self-reflective self-titled album. Despite the up-beat and captivating instrumentals that will absolutely get crowds moving, the lyrics themselves take a thoughtful and self-reflective theme. Making a commentary on past relationships, growing up, and the feelings surrounding it all, State Champs is something I believe almost all of us will be able to connect with in one way or another.

After being on the circuit for almost fifteen years, I believe this new self-titled release is one of the bands' best to date. Each track has a sing-along, fun vibe to it, making it the perfect soundtrack for a summer road trip with your friends. To me, this album is additionally one of the best pop-punk records I've heard in a while. That being said, I absolutely have some stand out tracks – one of these being track five, "Too Late to Say." The lyrics of this song really do get you looking back at your own ambitions. It tells the story of feeling lost and being plagued by self-doubt, whilst still trying to reach goals.

Another song that stood out to me was "Tight Grip." Through this song, the band makes a commentary on all the people who never supported them in their musical endeavors when starting out, and thought they knew better. However despite people's doubts, the band still pushed on. They demonstrated that if you can keep your head above the water and keep pushing, things will work out.

Overall I really enjoyed this album! A classic pop-punk sound, with new and innovative writing, created the perfect blend for new and old fans alike. After being a fan of these guys for a while, this album feels like a combination of all their eras in the best possible way – and I am so stoked to see what is next for State Champs.

State Champs by State Champs is out now on all major streaming services.

Keep up with State Champs and their future releases here.
