Taylor Acorn Finds Her Voice on Sophomore LP “Poster Child”
Nashville-based artist Taylor Acorn pours her heart out in her sophomore album, Poster Child, as she tells stories of heartbreak, growing up, and feeling like you’re never enough through twelve upbeat and catchy tracks.
Taylor started her career in Northern Pennsylvania, with roots in a pop punk band before moving comfortably into a solo career. She eventually made her way over to Nashville, where she got signed and was able to fully immerse herself in her music. She then released her first album, Survival in Motion, in late 2024; but with this new album, Taylor has really come into her own as a musician. With inspiration from artists like Avril Lavigne and Paramore, Poster Child tells upbeat stories with nostalgic undertones, looking back on memories and seeing the good in the bad.
This album feels like reading Taylor's diary; there is a relatable track for anyone who has experienced the struggles of being a young adult in today's culture. There is a consistency of a steady drumbeat that allows her stunning vocals to shine through, with catchy guitar riffs that keep the tracks playing in your head on repeat for days. Opening track “People Pleaser” sets the stage for the themes of the album, as Taylor expresses what it feels like to always put others first. She sings “I’m happy if you’re happy / who cares if I'm not,” a thought which is all too familiar for those who have ever struggled with putting themselves over those that they care for.
The track that really stood out to me was “Cheap Dopamine.” Taylor is able to capture the feelings of being strung along by someone while getting nothing in return through an upbeat chorus and mesmerizing vocals. The lyrics “was so used to you using me / didn’t know I was losing me” resonate deeply with those who have been in situations, but Taylor's vocals and instrumentals turn those negative feelings into ones of self-assurance and vindication. The rest of the songs on the album follow suit to generate a perfect pop punk album to scream along to on any day.
Taylor will be going on a North American tour for the album, which kicks off in Boston at the beginning of November. More information on dates is available on her website. Be sure to check out Poster Child wherever you stream your music.
